Our Vineyard
Our wines are created with minimal intervention and inputs in the vineyard and winery to encourage a unique, natural expression of their cool-climate terroir, the individual grape varieties and the current vintage.
Established in 1998 by Dave Neyle and Inga Lidums, the family-owned vineyard produces an award-winning range of white and red wines under the Lobethal Road and premium Bacchant labels.
Lobethal Road stands alone in the north-east corner of the Adelaide Hills wine region between the heritage villages of Lobethal and Mount Torrens.
The vineyard, at 475m above sea level, was first planted in 1998 and now generously provides esteemed, multi-award-winning Hills fruits such as Chardonnay and Shiraz as well as contemporary styles such as Tempranillo. Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris come from their Woodside vineyard, with additional fruit being sourced from neighbouring Hills' sites.
Lobethal Road's vineyards are nurtured with modern, environmentally sustainable practices, and minimal intervention and inputs throughout the entire winemaking journey aimed at highlighting the ultimate expression of the unique location, the Hills' cool climate, and the classic grape varieties that thrive in the region.
The entire site of the Mount Torrens vineyard and cellar door operates off the grid, supplying its own water as well as generating all its power by solar energy. Production 'miles' are minimal with their winemaking carried out just a kilometre down the road.
Lobethal Road's wines have been regularly awarded top accolades in capital city and regional wine shows, by leading Australian critics, and selected for prestigious wines lists both domestically and internationally.
Rated a 5 Star Winery and one of James Halliday's Ten Dark Horses in the Halliday Wine Companion 2020.
